A Vision to Represent Working People
Years ago, I recall sitting in the living room of my grandfather, who stormed the beaches of Normandy and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. At the time, I was proud to have landed a real corporate job as an entry level banker. My parents, as well as my grandparents, sacrificed a great deal with the hope that one day one generation would go to college and live a better life. We sat together this particular day watching a U.S. Senate race debate in 2004, which would be the last year of his life. He said to me with tears in his eyes, “Adam, I remember a time when you elected someone that actually represented you, and they would come to listen to you. I am afraid those days are gone”… I will never forget that experience. It is seared in my heart and in my mind. I knew I was witnessing the passing of the Greatest Generation to live the American dream. That was the year after we entered the war in Iraq, a war that two thirds of WWII Veterans opposed.
Now is the time to elect and support representatives who aren’t bought by special interests, leaders that will stand up for all of us here at home. From the universities, colleges, neighborhoods, streets and alleyways of Greensboro, to the seemingly forgotten furniture row, to the once booming storefronts, manufacturing plants and trains stations of Rowan, to the fading farms and hills of Iredell, Davidson and Davie Counties, and to the emerging futures and hopes of Lake Norman. We need someone who can represent each of these regions with compassion, skill, intimate knowledge and with grace. The American people, and North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District, deserve a public servant with a vision to improve all of our lives.
